Overview

Synopsis

After his revenge-porn website leads to a teen suicide, Jake Kinney is given a second chance as an online correspondent for a major newspaper in desperate need of new readers.

On Remembrance Day, he’s tipped about an amnesiac who showed up at a church on the Canada-US border with no memory of who he is or how he got there.

Kinney feels that the youth is faking his amnesia. Before he can figure out why, Kinney is assigned to cover a grisly murder in a remote resource town along BC’s infamous 'Highway of Tears'.

Up north, a confrontation with the local logging company leads Kinney to suspect that the teen and the murder case are connected, but he must face his own demons to prove it.

The first part of the trailer is the best I the competition, hands down. It demonstrates someone who knows and understands what they are doing. However the trailer becomes loose at the end, almost disjoined. Pacing is lost and maybe more plot is presented than required, thus why I feel it is uneven. Still, it looks fantastic. I want to see more.

On my past reviews I always commented on the cinematography and there is a reason as to why with this film. It stunning! The birds, the car rides, the forest, the city shots, all amazing! Plot wise, it seems a bit loose. I don’t know enough about the highway of terror and I think it could be difficult to gain a wide audience. Films like Argo are of well-known events and the highway of terror might not be one of them. However when watching this trailer I felt as though I was watching it on the big screen, and I was when it was shown at the top 10 announcements. To me it’s a sign that you’re going places regardless of the outcome of the top 5 and I wish you luck for the rest of the competition.

I've really enjoyed watching you guys over the past four months. From what I've seen, CineCoup better give you a chance to pitch in Banff. You're hustlers with the right amount of talent and skill to back your hype. That's what will get this film made.

This feels like a nod to the moody, atmospheric thrillers from Scandanavia. I've checked out some of your press. It's about time a Canadian filmmaker took this approach to storytelling. The cinematography is incredible and I really enjoyed the performance from Sue. Congratulations on Cannes guys.

This trailer totally sucks me in until the packing scene, after that it loses me a bit but the end is very creepy. Maybe some shots of him in the forest freaked out and just the woman's voice saying "I tried to warn you". It builds really nicely and the scenery shots are beautiful. Good job you guys! Love the Canadian Content.

Here is my Review of The Mill and the Mountain - this is what I know about the film.
The Mill and the Mountain is a drama thriller based upon the true story of a murder on British Columbia Highway 16 where 18 women have gone missing since 1963, known as Highway of Tears.

Character Jake Kinney is given a second chance working with a newspaper. He's tipped about a youth who apparently has lost his memory.

Kinney is suddenly assigned to a gruesome murder along British Columbia's Highway of Tears.

Highway of Tears is a 800 km stretch of Highways 16 from Prince George to Prince Rupert,B.C.

The Mill and the Mountain strong story-line can easily lead into a TV series of unsolved murders.

The Mill and the Mountain is by Writer/Director Sean Horlor along with Director/ Producer Steve Adams and Sean Cox Director of Photography/ Producer.

I found their CineCoup: Speechless - The Mill and the Mountain Video well done thanks to the above crew and their post-production team Jeff Canade and Jocelyn Peirce.

A great Canadian thriller sure to make your heart pound showcasing a troubled teen and the disappearance of women along the most dangerous Highway of Tears.

It's captured my interest and most undoubtedly a good teaming of fans on CineCoup.

Congrats on the Top 10!

The Mill and the Mountain is now among the top 10 picks on CineCoup and I'm looking to see the next level of The Mill and the Mountain.

Initially I was really impressed by the cinematography at the beginning and then I was impressed by the quality of the sound editing, but by the end of this trailer I was even more impressed by the caliber of acting and the suspense of the story which drew me in and made me intrigued to know more. Lots of mood and use of the forest as a screen in part but I don't see a glimpse of what is to be the real nature of the film - drama, thriller, suspense (yes), but voices do not seem convinced of this either.

This soes look somewhat interesting but I think you might want to tie in the fact this involves an actual murder investigation that leads to danger to the reporter a little better. From the trailer it looks like it may just involve a kidnapping, but making the murder plot line more clear will amp up the tension and hook the audience.

I think the cinematography and the overall filming is done very well and the story line seems to be unique and new. Only a little rushed in the end of the trailer but overall cool idea.

I've heard a lot about the Highway of Tears. Seems like the scariest place you can drive in Canada. Loved your trailer and especially love all your branding. Great graphics and you guys are doing a great job on your social media. Keep it up.

From our team to yours we wish you the best of luck with everything.

Sounds like an interesting story particularly because it is based on a true story. Love the northwest coast feel to the images. The trailer catches your attention and makes you want more.

Stunning visuals - gorgeous - trailer didn't really let us in on the full story though - left too much to the imagination.

Promising. I'm interested in the story. I like that it's suggestive of a something fresh in terms of actual plot. I would have liked to see more by making each clip in the trailer shorter.
