Sapience: The Search for Wisdom
444 Watching 1307 Views Average Rating 6.84 (621)

Overview

Synopsis

Thought leaders, intellectuals, and the wise around the world have unanimously diagnosed our way of life with a terminal illness. And the remedy is wisdom:

Wisdom that evolved into a canon of responsible codes of conduct fertilized our prosperity within nature for centuries. But many of those ideas have been erased. Could regaining this wisdom, which nurtured us for millennia, save us from the coming collapse?

To answer these questions, we must find guides capable of mining the time before we turned against nature and ourselves. With them, we will seek the path to re-engaging the inherent wisdom that led humanity to prosperity, and to our title of Homo Sapien – The Wise Being.

I think the concept of this documentary is fantastic and I loved the quote that opened up the video. I'm just not quite sure it's something that many people would go to the theatres to watch but I do believe it should be made and played on tv and in classrooms.

A good start. Im worried this film (based only on the trailer) will focus too much on the aspect of change instead of inspiring the desire to be well informed, so that positive change ends up resulting as a natural occurrence. But it's got me so far. Good luck!

A bold, noble and necessary undertaking. Putting into words and pictures the problem at hand and presenting a case for change won't be easy. It's never easy to get beyond the current common discourse to present new ideas to fresh ears. From what I see though, you are just the ones to do it; the epitome of "Be Brave". Best of luck.

I like the contrasting imagery they use. While I wouldn't say the tone is alarmist, I didn't feel particularly hopeful about making this dramatic change. The subject matter is VERY relevant, and some key global figures are shown, so this trailer does make me expect some very solid content, however it was not as powerful as expected.

This looks like a very interesting movie. The effects of interviewing authorities against a postapocalyptic background is interesting. I really like Vandana Shiva so she alone would interest me in seeing this, the other people interviewed are a boon. It's really neat how the computer-writing keeps glitching and refocusing. I would like to hear a bit more about the themes being focused on because they sound really interesting, but I'm not entirely certain what they mean - I'm sure that would be developed in the movie and this trailer definitely interested me in seeing more.

This is amazing. I have woken up to 'wisdom' over the past several months and the thinking here is right alongside my own. This is the message that audiences in Canada should see (and all of the world, really). I wish you the best in producing this film and hope that I can see this film in its entirety because I am very interested in hearing more from these speakers and watching your story unfold on the big screen.

While I agree with the general premise of this documentary, the writers need to avoid just repeating what everyone already understands. While the trailer was very well made and featured some interesting people, the finished documentary needs some interesting insight or a new take on the subject matter to avoid being condescending. Good luck, guys!

I like the concept and the VFX, but the greenscreen shots just didn't sell at all and really gave the project an amateur look in my opinion...if such a focus is going to be placed on those types of shots then the lighting and compositing has to be spot on, otherwise it takes away from it rather than adds to it. Really contrasted with the other footage being displayed and felt like two different pieces being mashed together, or like it was shot for some mid 90's documentary.

I cannot agree more, people need to wake up and realize apathy is an unacceptable way of life. We cannot continue to just selfishly live in the moment, a "me only" existence and expect our world to ever get better. Thank you so much for bringing this issue to the public consciousness.

For all the sweeping claims in this trailer, I'm left wondering what it's actually about. Over-industrialization? Environmental issues? Rampant consumerism? Western apathy? This seems alarmist, unfocused, and hardly news to anyone. For the record, I think action - rather than wisdom - would better lead to change.

I love documentaries that are breaking the mold of the simple talking head in front of the back drop I'm pretty sure they used for my junior prom photos. Case in point, "The Imposter" (amazing). And the world you put them in is great and intresting and I'm sure very much so, a part of the topic you are discussing, to you. The only real critique I have, right now as it is presented, the subject of your documentary is too vague. Wisdom is what we should gain from your documentary not be the focal point. Because with it you can talk about any ignorance in any field and if you're trying to cover it all then you need several month on the History/Discovery/TLC/National Geographic/Every network in existance, to cover the whole spectrum of ignorance going on in the society we made for ourselves and that's gonna take more than $1 million dollars. Every documentary deals with the ignorance of our society, whether it is with the enviroment or politics or economics. So to say you are making a documantary that seems to covering all of these things and more, about ignorance and wisdom being the remedy, I have to ask, "What is you documentary about?"

This topic is not only timely, but ever so important for our time. With global warming, poverty, water shortages, the erosion of our coastlines, destruction of our reefs, and destruction of our forests... Lighting! Lighting lighting lighting. Consistency of lighting. I don't know that I really like the green screen background. I feel like it's distracting from what's being said. Also you have a fade out and you see the woman disappear before the background does. I guess I'm interested, but I don't get the specific angle this doc is showing us that's different from what's been done before.
